A Quick Guide To Broadbeach

Right in the centre of the Gold Coast lies the comfortable community of Broadbeach. This energetic, exciting town is bursting with different activities that appeal to both local residents and visiting tourists. With direct access to the beach and a short jaunt to Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach is one of the Gold Coast’s greatest treasures.

Kurrawa Beach is the community’s iconic attraction, and the beach is always busy. Surrounded by a park and a wide walk, the beach has permanent volleyball nets and a host of other attractions. Fitness classes, yoga classes, and bike rides are easy to spot in the park around the beach, and there are independent fitness stations sprinkled throughout the area. There’s also a fine playground set aside for the enjoyment of younger visitors. The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships have been held on Kurrawa Beach for many years.

Broadbeach offers up a regular Arts and Craft market which is held twice a month (on the first and third Sundays) in the park. There is a range of tempting creations on offer and a wide range of fresh foods are available. On the opposite side of the road stands the Oasis Shopping Centre, and the community’s streets are frequently home to buskers, performers, and other entertainments.

Broadbeach has recently become known for a number of distinctive and prestigious apartment buildings. Examples include The Wave, winner of the Silver Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2006, The Oracle, and Bel Air.

The ground floors of most of the area’s tightly-packed buildings are given over to a range of visitor-friendly commercial pursuits. Bars, cafes, and restaurants are in ample supply. Mario’s Italian Restaurant, which has been a perpetual local favourite since it opened in 1989, is one of the area’s most beloved Italian dining experiences. There’s a cheap and popular BYO Japanese restaurant in the form of Cha Cha’s that’s always packed on Saturday nights. For a sense of Germanic flavour, the Bavarian Bier Cafe serves as a superb home base for an evening of people watching. With large dining rooms both indoors and outdoors, the Bier Cafe is a great place to survey Broadbeach’s crowds while enjoying an authentic Bavarian lager.

Saturday nights in Broadbeach are always special. Noted dance clubs in the area include Platinum, East, Love, and Envy Hotel – places where the latest music is always belting out to attract a party. There’s a quirky, distinctive cabaret slash restaurant to check out in the form of Dracula‘s, sited less than five minutes from the centre of Broadbeach. For slightly more serious attractions, the Gold Coast Convention Centre is immediately adjacent to Broadbeach. Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino also falls within easy travel distance from central Broadbeach. The Casino offers live shows and clubs in addition to gambling for the edification of weekend thrill-seekers.

The sheer volume of different attractions packed into Broadbeach makes it easy to understand why this beautiful seaside neighbourhood is considered an integral part of the Gold Coast by natives and tourists alike.
